GMAT Data Interpretation
Updated March 04, 2010
GMAT Data Interpretation questions are part of the GMAT Quantitative section.
The GMAT includes 2-4 data interpretation questions. These questions always include a graph, chart, or data table. See the practice problems below for examples.
Data Interpretation Tips
- Be careful not to mix percentages with raw numbers. Read the question carefully with that in mind.
- You will probably solve problems faster if you take a minute to digest the data artifacts first, before reading the problem. Take a second to look through all the data provided, noting the variables and so on. Then when you read the question you’ll know right where to look first.
- If the question mentions ‘approximation’, you can safely round off numbers to speed up your calculations.
- Be very careful to read the data from the right spot. Better to read twice, calculate once. Most mistakes are made not in the calculation, but in using the wrong data. Don’t rush.
